The DHWB develops an integrated portfolio of research and innovation in the areas of AI for health, digital medicine, and data science applied to the life sciences. Its main areas of activity include:

• predictive models for diagnosis, prognosis, survival, risk stratification, and personalized care planning;
  
  
• integration of clinical, omics, bioimaging, and patient-generated data, including data from wearable devices;
  
  
• generative and conversational AI for clinical documentation, continuity of care, access to knowledge, and communication among professionals, patients, and services;
  
  
• knowledge modeling, neurosymbolic reasoning, simulation, and evaluation of clinical and organizational processes;
  
  
• advanced visualizations, interactive interfaces, and protocols for human-data and human-AI interaction;
  
  
• generation of synthetic data, virtual patients, and validation environments for research, training, and experimentation;
  
  
• Design and implementation of digital health solutions, evaluating their clinical effectiveness, impact on the various stakeholders involved, and system-wide benefits.

The models and solutions are developed using a clinician-in-the-loop approach, in dialogue with relevant professionals throughout the entire development process. Particular attention is paid to the ability of technologies to make uncertainties, alternatives, trade-offs, and margins of reliability explicit, so as to support

Their implementation in technology and their validation in the field takes place through POCs (proof-of-concept or feasibility demonstrations) and pilot studies (e.g., clinical trials), and reaches production deployment in the health system, ensuring their validity and protecting safety at all stages, up to the end user.
